2021 Freshie program:

Unleash your inner witch in 2021 by signing up for Freshies!

East Vic Roller Derby’s Freshie program is a 10 week program for new skaters. You’ll learn the fundamentals of skating and roller derby, increase your fitness and discover the thrill of cruisin’ around on 8 wheels.

We have 5 Freshie intake dates planned for 2021, where we explain how roller derby works, fit you for any gear you need to borrow, and get you out on the track to develop your skating skills.

Who can register?

If you’re over the age of 18, this program is appropriate for you. There’s no need to be a master skater to start out with us: our coaches will train you up from the basics all the way to the top, at your own pace. So don’t be scared to join.

Info:

WHEN: Sundays 4.15pm - 5.45pm.

PREP: Please arrive by 3.45pm on your first day so we can sort out your gear and paperwork, and make sure you have registered and purchased insurance.

WHERE: ‘The Shed - Skate Victoria’, (Exhibition Building), Greaves Reserve, Dandenong,

Google pin here.

WEAR: Comfortable clothing, think leggings, t-shirt, etc (we don't recommend uncomfy, rigid denim etc) and sneakers for off-skates activities.

BRING: A drink bottle, pre- or post-snack if you want, a mask, and anything else to help you stay hydrated and comfortable.

It's up to all of us to slow the spread of COVID-19. Please stay home and do not attend this event if you feel unwell or if you are showing any COVID symptoms (fever, shortness of breath, flu-like symptoms such as coughing, sore throat or fatigue). Additionally, do not attend the event if you have been diagnosed with COVID-19, or have had direct contact with an individual diagnosed with or suspected to have COVID-19 in the past 14 days. Stay up to date with public health guidelines from australia.gov.au.

Costs:

  • $85 for compulsory Skate Victoria insurance (one off, lasts for the calendar year)
  • $100 for 10 week term (10 sessions)
  • $40 if you need to hire skates, $30 if you need to buy a mouthguard from us

Gear:

The following safety gear must be worn by all skaters:

  • Rollerskates with toe stops - you can hire a pair from us for $40 for the term
  • Knee and elbow pads, wrist guards and a helmet - you can borrow these from us for the term for free
  • A mouth guard - this is compulsory and while you can’t borrow one from us (because eww!) you can buy from us for $30. Or BYO

If you’d like to borrow any gear, let us know your sizing on the registration form and we’ll get you sorted.
